I love the idea that Manga/Anime doesn't really have any desription.
Anyways. So I was at the store and I was looking for pens. Colored pens, and I was at Hobby Lobby, in well, the pen/pencil aisle. With markers. And I found my pens, and I found gold and silver markerlikebrushlikepenlike things (totally nifty stuff) and I saw this nifty thing titled "Fiber Castell--Manga Art" or something along those lines. And in it, I find a pens/markerlikebrushlikepenlike things (though I didn't know they were markerlikebrushlikepenlike things at the time, I just thought they were pens) in there from a rich black to a very light gray, almost invisible. Perfect, in fact for black and white pictures. So, I pick it up and I'm like "I MUST HAVE." cause I thought they were all just pens.
So when I get to where I can actually use them, I'm like "Whoaness. Look at the markerlikebrushlikepenlike thing! It's like a paintbrush without the bristles!" and this totally fascinated me. So, I decided "Hey, let's draw a picture using these." Voila. Kind of ended up using myself as a basis for it.
Yes. This is done in pen and marker. o-o I like the shading on her right arm and the hair. The face is alright, I could pry do better but I'm satisfied with it. The hand's a little "woooh" I really don't like it much. I completely messed up on the shading. Oh well. I like how her eyes pop out. They just go Pop. And the glasses shine (I used the silver markerlikebrushlikepenlike thing).
Anyways, my friends at school thought this was pretty cool, I thought it was pretty cool, and it's pretty good for the first time I used markers. Fun, not my favorite media (colored pencil ftw), but very fun to look at when done properly.
Feel free to critique it all you want, I'd like advice on marker stuff. o-o
Just don't mention the arm. I know it's off, I HATE it, I just want marker info. DO NOT TOUCH THE EVIL ARM. Thank you.
Alright. Well, what is the base? Are they water based markers or alcohol? Because the biggest issue here is that they're streaky and not blended well. How to find out? There's two ways... look at the package, or simply smell them. Just don't get high, heh. Alcohol markers have a distinct smell. (Sharpie would be the extreme of that) Water based don't.
Once you know, you know what to blend them with. Waterbased with water, alcohol based with alcohol based blender. And both Prismacolor and Copic (both of which are at most Hobby Lobby stores) have 'colourless blenders'. I go -crazy- with mine.
I believe they're water based, cause I didn't smell nothing when I opened them up. They're actually Faber-Castell, and they're a PITT artist pen MANGA set <--copied right from the paper in the thing.
As for the streakyness, I did notice that. I thought it was fine for hair cause it's got like actual strands, but I didn't like how it turned out on any parts of her skin. And what do you mean "blending with"? Like, putting the paper in water or the marker in water? Or just mixing water-based with water-based markers. And I have a colorless blender, but it's in pencil form..like, it's made for colored pencils. Yeah, I'm usually a fan of prisma, but I ended up with these. o-o I tend to like trying out different products and stuff like that. But I'll have to look for that colorless blender (it comes in marker form, right?), cause that'll help.
To be honest, there was a thing with "instructions" and so yeah. It actually had a picture of a guy smiling (head tilted like that and everything) so I tried using that as a basis for that, seeing how I can't do guys and I just wanted to do something original. I did notice while doing it that it does have those streaky parts, and at the same time noticed how to fix it, but I forget exactly if I was patient enough with it. @-@
Thanks for the help. I love trying out new stuff like this, and sometimes ya get it right, sometimes ya don't, so it's always nice for help.

Well, my best advice for that is to actually take a brush with water and blend it that way. It's easier to blend alcohol based than water with markers. And as far as alcohol markers go, Prismacolor is really the 'bottom of the bucket'.
[link] is a good compilation of reasons why. But Copics aren't your only other option. There are also Neopiko/Deleter markers, which you can get at [link] under 'manga supplies'. They're a little less expensive than Copics and still beter than Prismacolor. Anywho, I ramble on. I've tried a lot of different mediums, though.
Mmkay. I'll have to find another weekend I can spend doing that, hopefully this upcoming one. That'll probably help alot.
I saw that, the Copic vs. Prisma. I'm surprised, seeing how I'm nearly in love with Prisma colored pencils (yum). I thought about the markers, but I never really liked marker. Till now, when I found these on accident. For some reason I thought they were pens. o-o Two of them are pens (.1 and .3 mm) but the rest are all markers on a grayscale. Kind of one of those "Oops" mistakes. Oh well.
Anyways, thanks for the help. My teacher actually wants me to mat it (O-o), so I'll end up keeping it not only as a reminder but pry cause it really is better than the kid's at school (shh..XD I shouldn't say that). 'Sides, it'll be a good way to look back on it when I do more marker pictures.

I know, I'm like addicted to those things. XD I took them to school once (all three cases) cause I had to finish something and my art teacher was like "wow, nice collection!" and they blend real well, too, not to mention they're pretty good about erasing if I need them to. I'm so glad I graduated from Crayola. XD
